Die Glashütte in Målerås wurde 1890 gegründet, kurz nachdem die Eisenbahn ihren Weg durch die Wildnis im Nordosten von Kronoberg gefunden hatte. Damals wurde mundgeblasenes Fensterglas hergestellt. Heute liegt der Fokus ganz anders. Målerås steht für hochwertigen Kristall. Am 29. Januar 1981 wurde ein historischer Vertrag unterzeichnet. Eine Gruppe von 15 Handwerkern, darunter Mats Jonasson, kaufte die Mühle von Kosta Glasbruk. Auch von den Einheimischen erhielten sie große Hilfe. Von den 250 Einwohnern des Dorfes investierten 80 in die Mühle. Seit dem bescheidenen Neubeginn im Jahr 1981 hat sich das Unternehmen weiterentwickelt und ist heute Schwedens größte Glashütte in Privatbesitz.
